Mark Velarde Co-Founder, Managing Director Mark is a professional with experience in a variety of industries, including retail, manufacturing, telecom, healthcare, and real estate. He earned both a BA and an MBA from UCLA. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association. Mark is a candidate for the Certified Turnaround Professional designation from the ACTP. His background includes SVP - Acquisitions of the pension fund advisory arm of First Interstate Bancorp and Executive VP of HVK, Inc. He joined Alvarez & Marsal, Inc. in 1992 and was part of the 2-man team that opened the firm's Los Angeles office. Mark resigned as Managing Director of Alvarez & Marsal, Inc. in January, 2003 in order to begin laying the groundwork for Catalyst, LLC. In addition to his advisory roles, Mark filled a number of interim senior management roles providing A&M's debtor clients with operational reorganization and financial restructuring strategies, including: CEO, 1992 - 1994 Chapter 11 reorganization of 5 acute-care hospitals and related nursing home and other facilities. Acting COO & CFO, 1994 - 1998 Out-of-court financial restructuring and operational reorganization in the commercial refrigeration industry.
